A fine associated pair of 17th century dummy boards / silent companions in the form of children. One in the form of a boy wearing red tunic with intricate lace collar and cuffs, holding a rose in one hand and a cane in the other, the other figure in the form of a young girl in dark dress with lace collar, hands held to side and waist, a small seated spaniel accompanies her beside her feet. Oils on laid canvas, c1615-30, likely later mounted on boards c1700, 104cm high maximum.

Provenance: From the collection of the 3rd Earl Cowper, Pashanger House, Hertfordshire, later by family decent into the collection at Firle Place, nr Lewes, East Sussex, then by family decent.
