How to bid at Wotton Auction Rooms

A simple guide to the different types of bidding at our auctions

All items sold must meet the latest relevant legislation. Wotton Auction Rooms is just an agent and is therefore not liable, full responsibility is with vendor, however we do PAT test all electrical wares. I deal with CITIES concerning protected materials such as taxidermy, ivory etc and will advise accordingly if the object is eligible for sale.

Online bidding

By using the-saleroom.com you can view our full catalogue and bid online. This allows you to bid for lots from the comfort of your own home, whist being able to watch the sale live through a video feed. In order to bid online you will need to register as a bidder with the-saleroom.com

In Person

Registering to bid for lots at Wotton Auction Rooms is an easy and straight forward process. Simply visit the office on the view or sale day and fill out a small form which can be obtained from any of our staff, who will then process your details and issue you a bidding number. With this in hand you can begin to bid on lots at your leisure. We advise potential buyers to allow a window of time for registration before their desired lots are offered for sale.

Commission bidding

This is where if you are unable to attend the auction in person for any reason, you can leave a maximum price with the office which will place bids for you. The auctioneer will then bid on your behalf from the rostrum, attempting to win the lot for you as cheaply as possible. It is important to remember that the maximum amount you leave does not include our buyer’s premium, which is added to the final hammer price.

Telephone bidding

We are happy to take bids over the phone on lots with estimates of £300 and over. Once this has been arranged the saleroom will contact you on a number provided several lots before the lot of interest is offered and will process your bid during the auction with you. If you would like to request a telephone bid on any of our lots please contact the office providing your full contact details and intended method of payment and collection should you be successful. Acceptance of telephone bids is upon condition of the offices approval and confirmation.

Costs of buying

An inclusive Buyers premium of 21% is payable by all purchasers attending the rooms, bidding by phone or leaving commission bids.

An additional premium of 3.6% (inclusive of VAT) of the hammer price is payable on all lots purchased via on-line bidding.
